Richard JonesA native of Easley, Pickens County, South Carolina, Richard A. Jones Jr., a partner with Dobson, Jones, Ball, Phillips & Bridges, P.A., practices in Greenville in the areas of employee benefits, professional business planning, federal and state taxation, and estate planning and administration. Mr. Jones regularly assists his clients with a variety of issues such as estate and gift tax planning, the preparation of wills and trusts, business formation and tax planning, and litigation.

Mr. Jones, a retired Colonel in the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAGC), previously worked as a trial attorney with the Internal Revenue Service and was Chief Legislative Assistant to the United States Senator Strom Thurmond. After entering private practice, Mr. Jones also had the honor of being National Chairman of the Internal Revenue Service’s Commissioner’s Advisory Group.

Mr. Jones, a Certified Tax Specialist since 1984, earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe and served on the editorial board of the South Carolina Law Review. He earned his Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of South Carolina.

Mr. Jones places a priority on community and professional involvement. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville, The Rotary Club of Easley, the Greenville Estate Planning Council, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Greenville County Bar Association and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Tax law, Trusts and Estates and Employee Benefits). Mr. Jones was also selected for the South Carolina Super Lawyers (representing the top 5% of lawyers within South Carolina) and has received the prestigious AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Jones was recently named the Best Lawyers’ 2013 Greenville Litigation & Tax Controversy “Lawyer of the Year.” Only one lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year” making this accolade particularly significant.

Mr. Jones is admitted to practice in South Carolina, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Claims Court, U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina.
